NanoCosmos is a collective international approach from the research community and industry to participate in the transformation of bioeconomy through bioscience and nanotechnology. The main aim of the NanoCosmos project is to create a multidisciplinary and intersectoral network to harness the recovery of valuable bioactive compounds from medicinal crops-derived wastes, such as Saffron (Crocus sativus) petals, chamomile (Matricaria chamomilla), Golden Root (Rhodiola rosea) and lavender (Lavandula angustifolia). The application of green extraction techniques and the production of ‘eco-friendly’ nanocosmetic products for sensitive skin applications will be the major innovative outcomes of NanoCosmos following the circular economy rules. ELGO's role in the project concerns the identification of by-products/residues of medicinal plants, for the extraction of bioactive ingredients and their further utilization in cosmetic products, together with the transfer of scientific skills and knowledge through the intersectoral dimension of the project.
