The Institute of Technology of Agricultural Products (ITAP) is one of the 11 Institutes of the General Directorate of Agricultural Research of ELGO-DIMITRA.

The institute

The Institute of Technology of Agricultural Products (ITAP) is one of the 11 Institutes of the General Directorate of Agricultural Research of ELGO-DIMITRA. It was founded in 1933 by the Hellenic Ministry of Agriculture as the "Agricultural Technology Station".

ITAP activities include:
  1. Research in the fields of
    • food quality and safety,
    • food and fresh product processing and preservation technologies,
    • molecular microbiology of food,
    • genomics,
    • wine and spirits,
    • biotechnology of agricultural products and utilization of by-products,
    • edible fungi,
    • milk and its products
  2. Conducting studies and providing technical support to the food industry for the optimization of food production processes, ensuring food quality and safety, developing innovative products and new biotechnological applications.
Services
ITAP has specific research and service structures. In particular:
  • Accredited (EN-ISO 17025) laboratories for microbiological and physicochemical analysis of food and genetic identification of agricultural products as well as
  • An accredited laboratory of Molecular Microbiology of Food where classical and modern techniques are applied. The Institute has excellent equipment such as Sensititre AST, Impedance technique, FOSS FoodScan, MilkoScan, BacSomatic, qPCR, PFGE, DGGE, NGS, Sanger, HPLC, GC, GC/MS, UHPLC HR qToF MS/MS, Ultra High Pressure System (the only integrated system in a laboratory in Greece).
