The institute

The Institute of Mediterranean Forest Ecosystems and Forest Products Technology (FRIA) is one of the 11 Institutes of the General Directorate of Agricultural Research of ELGO-DIMITRA.It was founded in 1929 in Athens.

FRIA conducts research in the following research areas:

1. Sustainable management and development of natural ecosystems (forests, woodlands, grasslands, grasslands, wetlands) with emphasis on the forests of the Mediterranean zone, the functioning of forest ecosystems and the monitoring of their structure, composition and biodiversity, their protection against fires, diseases and insects, monitoring of climate change and its effects, urban and peri-urban forests and restoration of the natural landscape, and technology for the utilization of forest products and forest biomass.
