The Director of the Institute of Animal Science, Dr. Fani Hatzina, is among the winners of the first PRIMA Foundation award for "Greening Food Systems."

Among the four distinguished women awarded by the PRIMA Foundation for their work and significant contribution to promoting positive changes in the food and agriculture sector in the Mediterranean is Dr. Fani Chatzina, a researcher at ELGO-DIMITRA and Director of the Institute of Animal Science. She received the award at a ceremony held in Cairo on February 4, 2025, in recognition of her efforts to ensure the resilience of agroecosystems against climate change challenges through effective pollination and sustainable beekeeping.

The PRIMA Foundation established this new award to recognize and celebrate the outstanding contributions of women in advancing sustainable and resilient food production systems.

From Greece to Portugal and Egypt, the four award-winning researchers are experts in various fields of the Mediterranean agri-food sector, tackling some of the region’s biggest challenges, from climate change and bee conservation to sustainable agriculture and reducing carbon emissions.
