ELGO-DIMITRA, General Directorate of Agricultural Research, celebrates 100 years of science, knowledge, and innovation in the agricultural sector.
ELGO-DIMITRA, the General Directorate of Agricultural Research, is organizing a commemorative event on Thursday, December 18, 2025, to mark the 100-year continuous contribution of its institutes to agricultural research in Greece.
The event will take place at the Institute of Mediterranean Forest Ecosystems in Ilisia and aims to highlight the long-standing contribution of scientific research to agricultural development, as well as its role in addressing the contemporary challenges of the agri-food sector.
The event will open with a welcome address by Prof. Spyridon A. Mamalis, President of the Board of Directors of ELGO-DIMITRA. This will be followed by a presentation on the historical journey of agricultural research at ELGO-DIMITRA and in Greece, by Dr. Anastasia Tsagkarakou, General Director of Agricultural Research at ELGO-DIMITRA, and a talk by Dr. Dimitris Panagiotopoulos, Director of the Documentation Center for the History of Greek Agriculture at the Agricultural University of Athens.
A roundtable discussion will then take place with the participation of Dr. Tasos Gaitanis, General Secretary for Research and Innovation, Ministry of Development, Mr. Antonios Filippis, General Secretary for Agricultural Policy and International Relations, Ministry of Rural Development and Food, as well as members of the scientific community, the innovation sector, and the business world. The discussion will be coordinated by Prof. Nektarios Vidakis, President of the Agricultural Research Committee of ELGO-DIMITRA, and will focus on the challenges and opportunities for the next chapter of agricultural research in Greece.
The event will begin at 17:30 with registration, and a light reception will follow the conclusion of the sessions.
