“An innovative monitoring system serving the management of animal disease outbreaks”
In early July, a team from ELGO-DIMITRA visited Larissa, where, in collaboration with the Veterinary Directorate of the Region of Thessaly, they conducted a pilot test of the i-GeoVET platform.
i-GeoVET is an advanced geospatial information system designed for the efficient organization of data related to livestock farms and facilities at a national level. It particularly addresses the need for rapid response to animal disease outbreaks and supports operational crisis management in the livestock sector.
Researchers from ELGO-DIMITRA, Dr. Panagiotis Tziachris (Institute of Soil and Water Resources) and Dr. Theofilos Papadopoulos (Institute of Veterinary Research), presented the platform to regional veterinarians actively involved in disease control and management, aiming to tailor it to the needs of day-to-day veterinary practice.
Field visits to livestock farms followed, during which the application was tested on-site using portable devices to record sampling and epidemiological data.
The pilot trial in Thessaly marks an important step toward the digital transformation of Greek livestock farming, strengthening prevention and rapid response to animal health crises.
